Stray Cinema is an open source film project. It is a unique experiment
in filmmaking, and we would love your students to be involved.

The raw footage from a film shot in London has been made available for
the public to download from www.straycinema.com. This is to provide
people all over the world with the opportunity to create their own
version of the film.

We are asking people to download the raw footage from our website and
re-edit it into a short film. The only constraint is that the finished
product contain at least 80 per cent of the original footage and be no
longer than two minutes in duration.

The top five films will be screened alongside the original film cut,
at the Stray Cinema screening in London.

Stray Cinema is an extremely relevant project for film school students
to participate in. It demonstrates the important and influential role
that post production can play, and experiments with the website as a
medium to communicate and collaborate with other creative people
around the world.

For every film that is submitted into the Stray Cinema competition, we
ask the person who is submitting their film where they heard about us.
If they heard about Stray Cinema from Summer School in Filmmaking at
Melbourne University, then "user loves www.your websiteaddress.com"
will appear on their film page!

I hope you will pass this information on to your students, direct them
to our website www.straycinema.com, and encourage them to get involved
by submitting a film into our competition.

Thanks for your time, and please do contact me with any questions you may have.

Kind regards,

Michelle Hughes
Stray Cinema - Project Coordinator

Wanted : Senior Camera Person/Editor and or Film Crew

“The Truck Volt” is a registered business since August, 2008.

We are looking for a camera person/editor to film a demo for a reality/variety series. Must have their own equipment/lighting.

Must be reliable, easy going and have a good eye for detail. Enthusiasm and creativity is a must as well as having the ability to advise and make any suggestions for filming.

I must be honest in saying there is no pay for this project but lunch and or dinner will be provided for the day (minimal cost to you). As this project is being funded 100% by myself payment may be made if any funding does come through at the end of filming.

Although the role is initially unpaid, will lead to regular work for the right candidate to join our team for ongoing work.

Any experience would be preferred, this would also suit any students needing the experience to better their credentials. We all need to start somewhere.

If interested, please email your contact details to Maria at thetruckvolt@hotmail.com

Hi,
I did two days of the Filmmaking Summer School Jan 2010.

I’m currently looking for a crew to film a short horror film to be entered into the Canberra Short Film Festival.

The film, titled ‘SNAP’, takes place in the apartment of a young pregnant woman who has to make a difficult decision.

At the moment I need a camera operator and DOP/lighting.

I’m interested working with people who are passionate about film no matter their experience.
The positions are unpaid – this is a very low budget thing. It should be a fun day and lunch will be provided. Everyone will receive a copy of the finished DVD.

This would be a one day shoot sometime in late May.

The Mill Boys is a co-op production with a cast of 13 based on the book '11 months in Bunbury' set in a saw mill in WA.

The production has the full support of the Collingwood Housing Estate Action Committee, who run the 'Underground Theatre' where the play will be performed. Part of this is involving local residence to give them a chance to improve technical skills and return something to the community.

As, the Bunbury Entertainment Centre is also keen to do a live broadcast of the opening night on August 27 we are looking for students keen to be involved in the project by filming the performance. I am writing to you to see if there would be a good time to chat with you about the production and to get your advice or assistance in notifying interested film students about the opportunity.

Crew Call for Tropfest short film

We are looking for a dedicated crew to get together to film a Tropfest short film called “Dreams of Reality”.

It's criticizing today's superficial society, especially the media and their striving for visual perfection.
It marks a strong ending when the girl in the story has to die because she can’t fit in.
Most actors will be replaced by plastic mannequins after a few scenes to convey a stereotypical atmosphere of beauty.
The challenging part about the filming will be to get a surrealistic mood across that would rather resemble a dream than reality. We are also planning to use a few small special effects here and there either on set or in postproduction.
The sets are around Sorrento/Portsea and some posh suburbs of Melbourne (locations are all confirmed).
The original story (called “Sand and Wax”) won some internet ratings so we hope that the plot and finally the execution of the movie will be unique enough to make it into next year’s Tropfest finals.

Exact dates for filming are yet to be confirmed but will hopefully be around end of April/beginning of May 2012 around the Melbourne and Sorrento/Portsea area, mainly on weekdays.
We need:
Camera operator/DOP with their own equipment or access to equipment (at least camera, tripod, microphones and basic lighting)
Sound recordist/sound mixer with their own equipment or access to equipment (with boom mike and wireless mikes)
Assistants who would like to gain experience on set and help out with various tasks
Director who could also be available for a few casting sessions within the next weeks.
Editor with his own computer and editing program or access to one, who would also be willing to play around with minor special effects, if needed, to achieve the desired result.

If you are a person with multiple skills you can of course apply for several roles. And if you regularly work with certain assistants you can bring them along.

For more details please contact me either via email (stefanie.hoefgen@gmail.com) or via mobile (0415 416 144).
I am looking forward to hearing from you!
Thanks,
Stefanie
